Recently, I was with a friend who told me he reads my blogs. I’m not sure why I was so surprised, but I was. I was also encouraged. He went on to tell me that my blog about the 10 Things I Love About My Son inspired him to write down the 10 things he love about his sister and her emotional response to that act. I was really touched by that. Continue reading “Really? You Read My Blog?”
Okay…I am a couple of weeks late getting to this blog; but nevertheless, here it is.
First, I cannot express how delightful it is to get together with these ladies that I’ve now known for nearly two decades. It’s a bond that not many get to experience. The laughter and the tears, the jokes and the sarcasm; I look forward to it all. The time we spend is so valuable and we’ve all finally admitted that we aren’t getting any younger…but we all still look great! Ha!
Last year Jaden really wanted to go to #AllStarWeekend in #NOLA. It’s difficult to make that sort of thing happen with little to no planning. So instead, I planned to take him to #LA for his 16th birthday during #AllStarWeekend to participate in some of the festivities.
When I was in Doha I was introduced to #mindfulness because of some personal struggles. Since that time I’ve made an effort to routinely #meditate and learn to be present. Not everyone can appreciate this and that’s okay. I’m just going to share with you a little of my experience.
There were four #Chakra songs that I meditated to in #Doha. I still have those songs on my playlist and when I meditate to them I literally go back to a calm place and when I’m done, I am centered. I can tell when I’ve slacked on the meditation because I literally feel off balance. Continue reading “Center Yourself So You Can Hear”
People asked me what are my new year resolutions. I’ve never made a new year resolution and had no plans to make any for 2018. However, I’ve had a pretty challenging 2017 as I’m sure many others have. Yes, I try my best to stay upbeat and positive when I blog so some may think I’m living this fabulous life. (Hmmm, I think I’ve blogged about that before.) Well, life is good as I always say when I sign off, yet life is challenging.
With the ups and downs of 2017 and the recent loss of individuals in my life and family, it brings to mind the saying about not waiting to tell people how you feel. That brings me to my 2018 New Year resolution. I’m going to tell the most important person in my life, my son Jaden, the ten things I love about him.
Jaden planned to come to #Houston for #Thanksgiving. He loves the idea of being with family and it would literally just be him and me. I asked him if he wanted to spend the holiday in #KansasCity with some of my #family. He didn’t hesitate to say yes to that suggestion. So we planned to meet in Kansas City, MO for Thanksgiving.
Jaden arrived several hours before me and was retrieved from the airport by my sister Jamica. They had a chance to hang out at her house with her kids, including my three little nephews. The new baby, Trey, was born just weeks before and I was so excited to see him. I’ve noticed that the older I get, the more I love cuddling the new babies. My nephew, Amir (4), likes to check up on me every now and then and will video chat with me. Sometimes he calls from such random places, like under his mother’s bed! Amir is also crazy about Jaden. I couldn’t wait for those two to get together!
It’s been a while since I’ve blogged but I want to fill you in on my family’s visit for their birthday celebrations. It was my brother and sister-in-law’s first visit to #Houston and now that my sister, Tamona, has moved to #Dallas, I’ve lost count of the number of time’s she’s been down. It’s nice to have her so close!
My brother, Aaron, turned 50 November 14th and my sister, Tamona, had a birthday November 19th – I won’t tell you how old she is because she’d kill me. Anyway, they decided to come hang out in Houston to celebrate and we had a great time.
When I don’t know what to do, I write.
For those who have followed my blog for a few years, you’ve been privied to my loves, likes, dislikes and even my quirks. I usually try to keep things light but the whole process has been therapeutic for me. However, tonight I write because I don’t know what else to do and I’m counting on this to be therapeutic.
After spending a few weeks in Oklahoma with his grandparents, Jaden made his way to Houston to spend some time with me. I’m always so excited to see my son. He’s such a fun kid and has an hilarious sense of humor. He stayed just shy of two weeks before he took a detour to tag along with me to San Diego. We had no idea what we were going to do while he was here in Houston so of course we decided to do touristy stuff!
